Lorraine
Starr is a metal smith, enamelist and master etcher who brings these
enduring arts to custom designed, hand crafted
jewelry.
Her signature pieces are etched silver bracelets and pendants, many with intricate
paisley patterning. Her designs incorporate detailed, hand-designed etching and
the unique color combinations she develops for her
enamel work.
Lorraine's artistic style evolved from her life experiences. As a child, she
learned the traditional craftsmanship and delicacy of eastern European (Lithuanian)
batik style egg decorating. Her passion for mathematics connected her to lines,
curves, symmetry, patterns, geometrics etc. Her background includes college,
museum and craft artisan courses/training, along with metal and enamel monitor
for WCC (The Worcester Center for Crafts).
Philosophical studies, meditation, yoga, and Qi-gong continue to sustain and
inform Lorraine's precise, intricate and meditative creations --- as do regular
travels to Singapore, Lithuania, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Hungary
and other countries where
craft traditions still thrive.
Lorraine is a Worcester business woman and an involved community member. She
is an active fund raiser for that city's Foothill's Theatre, a steering committee
member for the Men's Resource Center of Central Massachusetts, Qi-gong instructor
and WCC
monitor.
Hand craft etching requires attention and focus for a product of precision and
beauty.
An intriguing attraction is "drawn" to the mystery hidden within
the formation known as paisley!
